What is Maṅgala (Karpūra) Ārati

At the close of a pūjā, devotees offer karpūra ārati by lighting camphor and circling the flame before Bhagavān or Devī. The karpūra or camphor flame symbolizes the ego burning away without residue, and its light is offered as a final gesture of surrender. After showing it to God, bhaktas receive the ārati's warmth and touch it to their eyes or head as a sign of accepting the deity's grace, our gratitude and purification.

Jaya Jagadīśa Hare Ārati

Jaya Jagadīśa Hare is one of the most widely sung āratīs across Hindu temples and households. Recited near the conclusion of pūjā during the karpūra or camphor ārati, it praises Bhagavān Viṣṇu as Jagadīśa, the Lord who sustains and protects the universe. The song Bhagavān's compassion toward every devotee regardless of circumstance. As the ārati flame is circled before the deity, the bhakta offers their surrender and trust to Viṣṇu. Then bhaktas receive the flame's light and warmth as His grace, reaffirming their commitment to live under dharma, vinaya, and Ishwara smaranam.
